November pork muscle cut exports were the highest since May at 197,707 mt but were down 9% from last year and from November 2019. Compared to last November, pork muscle cut exports were higher for Mexico (+22,200 mt), South America (+4,900 mt), Central America 9+3,100 mt), Caribbean + DR (+2,700 mt), and Korea (+2,200 mt), and exports were steady to Canada. Exports were lower to China/HK (-44,000 mt), Australia/NZ (-4,600 mt), ASEAN (-3,100 mt), Japan (-2,100 mt), and Taiwan (-670 mt). Pork muscle cut exports to Mexico (77,753 mt, +40%) set a new record for the second consecutive month. Exports to Japan (32,032 mt, -6%) were the highest since August but were lower year-over-year. Exports to Canada (18,818 mt, +0%) were steady with last year and down 1% from November 2019. Combined exports to China/HK totaled 15,154 mt, down 74% from last year and the lowest since February 2019 on lower exports to China (14,515 mt, -75%) and Hong Kong (639 mt, -45%). Exports to Korea (13,014 mt, +20%) were the highest since June. Exports to Colombia (13,701 mt, +97%) were massive in November, exceeding the record set the previous month of 11,319 mt. Pork muscle cut exports were also record large to Honduras (5,368 mt, +30%) in November, and exports were higher to all destinations in Central America: Guatemala (2,273 mt, +22%) Nicaragua (1,490 mt, +42%) El Salvador (1,489 mt, +55%), Panama (1,339 mt, +21%), and Costa Rica (1,129 mt, +17%). Exports to the Dominican Republic (5,816 mt, +64%) were the second highest on record after the large total of 6,345 mt in March. Exports to Australia (2,052 mt, -66%) slowed to the lowest level since 2014, while exports to New Zealand (446 mt, -60%) rebounded from the October low but remained sluggish. Exports to the Philippines (755 mt, -72%) slowed to the lowest level since 2009.

November pork variety meat exports totaled 39,849 mt, down 4% or -1,618 mt from last year and down 6% from 2019 (and the lowest since February). Compared to last year, exports were higher to Korea (+510 mt), ASEAN (+490 mt), Japan (+290 mt), Canada (+160 mt), Mexico (+70 mt), Central America (+60 mt), and Caribbean + DR (+60), while exports were lower to South America (-2,600 mt), China/HK (-330 mt), and Taiwan (-170 mt). Combined exports to China/HK totaled 23,967 mt, down 1% from last year. Exports to China (23,916 mt, +1%) were the lowest since February, and exports to Hong Kong (51 mt, -91%) have been minimal since April. Exports to Mexico (9,687 mt, +1%) were higher than last November and November 2019 but were down from the volumes exported August to October 2021. Exports to Japan (812 mt, +56%) were the highest since June 2019, and exports to Korea (802 mt, +173%) and Canada (1,387 mt, +13%) were the highest since July.

Pork variety meat exports to the Philippines (1,226 mt, +57%) slowed from October but remained strong. Exports to Colombia (393 mt, -44%) were lower than last year, and exports to Chile (238 mt, -91%) slowed to the lowest level since June 2020.

January – November pork and variety meat exports totaled 2.706 million mt, down 0.4% or -10,750 mt from last year’s record (with value up 7% or +$475 million to $7.5 billion). Exports were higher year-over-year to Mexico (+178,000 mt), Central America (+38,500 mt), South America (+21,400 mt), Caribbean + DR (+16,800 mt), ASEAN (+14,100 mt), Korea (+9,400 mt), Japan (+8,900 mt), and the EU27 + UK (+480 mt). Exports were lower to China/HK (-254,000 mt), Australia/NZ (-17,300 mt), Taiwan (-14,800 mt), Canada (-7,000 mt), the Surrounding Russia Region (-1,500 mt), and Africa (-530 mt).

November pork exports accounted for 24.6% of pork production and 27.4% when including variety meats as compared to 27.0% and 29.9% for November 2020. January – November pork exports accounted for 26.3% of production and 29.8% when including variety meats, compared to 26.6% and 29.3% for January – November 2020.

November 2021 pork export value per head averaged $59.11/head, down $4.22/head or -7% from $63.33/head in November 2020. January – November 2021 pork export value per head averaged $63.63/head, up $5.10/head or +9% from $58.53/head for January – November 2020.
