June pork muscle cut exports totaled 177,843 mt, down 8% or -14,500 mt from last year (but steady with June 2020 and up 4% from June 2019). June pork muscle cut exports were higher to the Caribbean + DR (+4,200 mt), South America (+3,600 mt), Mexico (+2,500 mt), and Korea (+1,500 mt). Exports were lower to China/HK (-14,100 mt), ASEAN (-4,500 mt), Japan (-2,700 mt), Australia/NZ (-2,600 mt), Canada (-1,700 mt), Central America (-500 mt), and Taiwan (-180 mt). Exports to Mexico (64,147 mt, +4%) were the lowest since last July but were still the highest ever for the month of June. Exports to Japan (30,278 mt, -8%) moved seasonally lower in June. Combined exports to China/HK totaled 16,940 mt, down 45% from last year but the highest since last October. Exports to China (16,167 mt, -47%) were the highest since October, while exports to Hong Kong (773 mt, -7%) were the highest since February. Exports to Korea (15,721 mt, +11%) were the second highest since last May after the May 2022 total of 16,181 mt. Exports to Canada (12,954 mt, -12%) slowed to the lowest level since April 2020. Exports to Colombia (10,554 mt, +87%) were the highest since last November and the fourth highest monthly volume overall, but exports remained sluggish to Chile (775 mt, -63%) and Peru (120 mt, -28%). Exports to the Dominican Republic (7,195 mt, +117%) were the third highest on record after the April total of 8,733 mt and the May total of 8,347 mt. To Central America, exports were higher to Panama (1,055 mt, +9%) and Costa Rica (817 mt, +38%), while exports were lower to Honduras (3,558 mt, -9%), Guatemala (1,765 mt, -8%), El Salvador (958 mt, -11%) and Nicaragua (587 mt, -23%). Exports to Australia (4,031 mt, -24%) were down from last year but were the second highest since last July after the May total of 4,633 mt, while exports to New Zealand (378 mt, -78%) remained muted. Exports to the Philippines (3,449 mt, -53%) continued to rebound in June and were the highest since last July. Exports were also lower than last year to Vietnam (242 mt, -48%) and Singapore (191 mt, -53%). Exports to Taiwan (202 mt, -48%) remained limited.

June pork variety meat exports totaled 41,288 mt, the highest since October, but volumes were down 11% or -5,300 mt from last June. Pork variety meat exports were higher to Japan (+550 mt), ASEAN (+550 mt), Australia/NZ (+90 mt), Caribbean + DR (+70 mt), Taiwan (20 mt), and Canada (20 mt). Exports were lower to China/HK (-5,200 mt), Mexico (-750 mt), South America (-570 mt), Central America (-140 mt), and Korea (-20 mt). Pork variety meat exports to China/HK totaled 26,408 mt, down 16% from last year but the highest since last September. Exports to China (26,407 mt, -16%) accounted for all of the volume as no exports were reported to HK in June (down from 99 mt last year). Exports to Mexico rebounded to 10,400 mt in May (the highest since September), but exports slowed to 8,204 mt in June (down 8% from last year).

Exports were slightly higher than last year to Canada (1,420 mt, +1%) and were down slightly to Korea (748 mt, -2%). Exports to the Philippines (1,371 mt, +119%) were higher year-over-year but were down from March to May 2022 levels. Exports to Japan (1,026 mt, +117%) were the second highest since June 2019. Pork variety meat exports to Colombia (566 mt, +173%) are on a record pace, and exports to Guatemala (336 mt, +62%) remained strong. Exports to Taiwan (169 mt, +17%) were the second largest since May 2021 after the May 2022 total of 240 mt.

January – June pork muscle cut and variety meat exports totaled 1.287 million mt, down 18% or -288,500 mt from last year. Exports were higher to Mexico (+73,000 mt) and the Caribbean + DR (+14,800 mt), while exports were lower to China/HK (-248,800 mt), ASEAN (-42,400 mt), Australia/NZ (-26,200 mt), Japan (-18,200 mt), Canada (-15,750 mt), South America (-10,650 mt), Central America (-8,100 mt), Korea (-3,700 mt), Taiwan (-1,850 mt), and EU27 + UK (-170 mt).

June pork exports accounted for 23.6% of pork production and 27.0% when including variety meats, compared to 25.5% and 29.4% for June 2021. January – June pork exports accounted for 23.5% of production and 26.4% when including variety meats, compared to 27.4% and 30.8% for January – June 2021.

June 2022 pork export value per head averaged $61.87/head, down $3.57/head or -5% from $65.44/head in June 2021. January – June 2022 pork export value per head averaged $58.14/head, down $8.03/head or -12.1% from $66.17/head for January – June 2021.
