October pork muscle cut exports totaled 182,927 mt, down 1% or -1,857 mt from last year. . Exports were higher to Korea (+2,790 mt), China/HK (+2,780 mt), Caribbean + DR (+2,310 mt), ASEAN (+880 mt), and Taiwan (+210 mt), while exports were lower to South America (-4,410 mt), Central America (-2,600 mt), Aus/NZ (-1,120 mt), Canada (-900 mt), Japan (-780 mt), Mexico (-700 mt), and EU27 + UK (-140 mt). Exports to Mexico (72,970 mt, -1%) were slightly below year ago levels for the second month in a row, but year-to-date exports remain on a record pace. Exports to Korea (12,070 mt, +30%) were at the second lowest level this year but were higher year-over-year. Exports to the Philippines (2,870 mt, +36%) were higher year-over-year (although they were a bit sluggish in September and October) and exports to Singapore (350 mt, +167%) were the highest since June 2021, bringing the ASEAN region (3,310 mt) 36% above year-ago levels in October. Exports to Canada (16,430 mt, -5%) were below year-ago levels for the tenth consecutive month. Exports to the Caribbean + DR (8,810 mt, +35%) were the third highest ever recorded, driven by the Dominican Republic (7,110 mt, +43%), which reached the fourth highest volume ever recorded behind April, May, and June of this year along with the Bahamas (390 mt, +7%) and the Leeward-Windward Islands (390 mt, -2%), which reached the fifth highest volume ever recorded, but were down year-over-year. Exports to Trinidad and Tobago (300 mt, +127%) were the highest since September 2021, while exports to the Netherland Antilles (340 mt, -17%) were the highest since November 2021, but were below year-ago levels. Exports to Chile (1,710, -18%) were lower year-over-year, but were the highest since November of last year. With Chile, exports to Colombia (7,540, -33%) and Peru (110 mt, -73%) brought South America totals below year-ago levels. Exports to Taiwan (280 mt, +304%) reached the second highest level this year, while exports to Japan (27,110 mt, -3%) reached the second lowest level this year. Combined exports to China/HK totaled 19,850 mt, up 16% and resulted in the second highest volume this year behind August. Exports to China (19,190, +18%) were higher year-over-year, while exports to Hong Kong (650 mt, -14%) were lower. Exports to Australia (2,560 mt, -31%) were below year ago levels for the tenth consecutive month, but exports to New Zealand (280 mt, +23%) were above year-ago levels for the first time this year. Exports were higher than last year to El Salvador (1,100 mt, +6%), but were lower than last year to most other destinations in Central America: Honduras (3,280 mt, -12%), Guatemala (2,240 mt, -22%, but highest since November 2021), Costa Rica (1,110 mt, -22%), Nicaragua (1,000 mt, -20%, but highest since November 2021), and Panama (650 mt, -62%, lowest level since February 2019). Exports to the EU27 + UK (30 mt, -81%) were lower year-over-year.

October pork variety meat exports totaled 55,271 mt, +33% or +13,849 mt from last year and the second highest level ever recorded. Exports were higher to China/HK (+12,630 mt), Mexico (+1,690 mt), Japan (+430 mt), Central America (+320 mt), Caribbean + DR (+130 mt) and Taiwan (+110 mt), while exports were lower to South America (-440 mt), ASEAN (-410 mt), Canada (-330 mt), Korea (-290 mt), and Taiwan (-210 mt). Exports to China (37,500, +51%) were the highest on record, while there were no reported exports to Hong Kong.

Exports to Mexico (11,940 mt, +16%) reached the highest level since August 2021 and exports to Colombia (470 mt, 8%), Guatemala (370 mt, +45%), Panama (130 mt, +136% and the highest since March 2021), the Dominican Republic (110 mt, +891%), and Honduras (100 mt, +72%) were higher year-over-year. Exports to Chile (40 mt, -91%) were below year-ago levels for the tenth consecutive month. Exports to Japan (1,230 mt, +55%) were the highest since November 2018 and exports to Taiwan were 110 mt, up from 0 mt a year-ago, while exports to the Philippines (1,260 mt, -27%) and Korea (460 mt, -38%) were lower year-over-year. Exports to Canada (850 mt, -28%) were the lowest level since February 2021.

January – October pork muscle cut and variety meat exports totaled 2.181 million mt, down 12% or 287,214 mt from last year. Exports were higher to Mexico (+74,560 mt), the Caribbean + DR (+19,600 mt), and Korea (+7,010 mt), while exports were lower to China/HK (-229,830 mt), ASEAN (-39,380 mt), Aus/NZ (-31,220 mt), Japan (-25,030 mt), Canada (-23,220 mt), Central America (-19,130 mt), South America (-17,600 mt), Taiwan (-1,510 mt), and EU27 + UK (-1,000 mt).

October pork exports accounted for 23.4% of pork production and 28.3% when including variety meats, compared to 23.3% and 26.5% for October 2021. January – October pork exports accounted for 23.4% of production and 27.1% when including variety meats, compared to 26.1% and 29.7% for January – October 2021.

October 2022 pork export value per head averaged $63.87/head, up $8.03/head or +14% from $55.83/head in October 2021. January – October 2022 pork export value per head averaged $60.18/head, down $3.39/head or -5% from $63.56/head for January – October 2021.
