Industrial processing of pork in Ukraine has increased over 10 months of 2020

Over 10 months of 2020, meat processing enterprises produced 251.7 thousand Mt of fresh, chilled and frozen pork. This is 5.5% or 13 thousand Mt up than in the corresponding period last year. This was reported by the press service of the Association of Pig Farmers of Ukraine, with reference to data from the State Statistics Service.

"To a wide extent, this growth has led to increased production of frozen pork. So, although the share of such products in the structure of general production remains quite small, however, as of the end of October, meat processing plants produced 24.4 thousand Mt of such products, that is, 40% or almost 7 thousand Mt up y-o-y. Due to this, the share of frozen meat in the structure of pork production increased from 7% to almost 10%," the Association's analysts explained.

In addition, according to experts, the production of the main product - fresh, chilled and frozen pork, which during the reporting period amounted to 219.7 thousand Mt, increased by 5.9 thousand Mt. At the same time, although more than 75% of these volumes are accounted for by chilled pork sides, the positive dynamics was ensured, more actively than last year, by the production of the so-called "large piece" – bone-in hams, shoulders and their cuts. It is noted that in January-October 2019, the production of such products amounted to 12 thousand Mt, and in 2020 it grew by 65% and almost reached 20 thousand Mt.

"The total output of pork, pork variety meats and fat amounted to 1.33 million Mt during the analyzed period. Although in physical terms such a result is 21.4 thousand Mt down against a year ago, however, according to the results of 10 months, the deficit in processing volumes decreased to 1.5% from almost 2% according to the results of III quarters," the experts summed up.
