Rosselkhozbank: the dynamics of growth in pork production in the coming years will slow down

In 2020, the main driver of growth in the consumption of livestock products was pig breeding, where production increased by 8.9% and amounted to about 5.5 million tons in live weight.

The sub-industry is in the process of transition from the growth stage to the maturity stage: the dynamics of production growth will slow down.

– - Competition, concentration and efficiency of pig production will increase, and the sub-industry will become more and more export-oriented, - forecasts Andrey Dalnov, head of the Center for Industry Expertise of Rosselkhozbank.

In his opinion, the growth of the capacity of the domestic market will depend on the ability of pig farmers to convince consumers that the consumption of their product does not contradict a healthy lifestyle, since saturated fats are necessary for the normal functioning of the body.

The Belgorod Region has become the absolute leader among the country's regions in pork production - over 922 thousand tons. However, the situation with ASF can spoil the rosy picture. Recently, the genome of this disease was found on the territory of Bashkortostan in pastes produced in Belgorod. The same situation was announced by local mass media of the Samara region.

The top five producers also included Kursk (478 thousand tons), Pskov (337 thousand tons), Voronezh (319 thousand tons) and Tambov (273 thousand tons) regions. The largest growth was shown by the Tula region, where the indicator has tripled over the year.
