The use of antibiotics in Ukrainian livestock will limit

The government of Ukraine has recently adopted a National Action Plan to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance. According to this document, in two years the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, together with the veterinary service, should develop a procedure for the use of antimicrobial agents in animal husbandry. In particular, it will be prohibited to use antibiotics for prophylaxis.

«“It is necessary to use antibiotics wisely - to determine the sensitivity of the pathogen to drugs that are used in cases of the disease. When we talk about the domestic pig sector (and we have a very extensive branch: there are small producers, medium and large, and private gardens), we understand that now the approach to the use of antibiotics is largely controlled by the issue of conscience and concern for the consumer.

For example, large industrial enterprises control such issues, adhere to the developed protocols, check the final products. Unfortunately, it is impossible to guarantee that the entire sector does the same, ”said Oksana Yurchenko, President of the Association“ Pig Producers of Ukraine ”.

However, the head of the profile association notes that breeders need a transitional period in order to reorient production and adapt to new conditions.
