Why pork price rises in Russia

Since the beginning of year pork rose in price almost for 13%. One of the reasons - the raged African swine fever. Even large holdings, the enclosed billion rubles in biosafety, cannot be protected completely from the virus.

According to the General Director of the National Union of Pig Farmers Yuri Kovalev, in 2021 the situation with ASF is the most serious in the last few years. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, this year cases of plague among domestic pigs and wild boars were detected in 35 regions of the country.

Kovalev noted that, despite the huge financial investment and control, it is impossible to exclude the human factor due to the dense circulation of the virus. “Some unwashed hands of an employee of the livestock complex – believe me, lost all livestock,” – he explained.

Due to this situation, pork production decreased. According to forecasts, in 2021 the rate will fall to a minimum of 1.5-2 percent. At the same time, the cost of production has increased by 20–30 percent since the beginning of the year.

Earlier it was reported that Roskachestvo studied stewed pork of the first and highest grade and found deficiencies in most of the samples. Experts found that in 13 of the 19 samples the mass fraction of protein was below the established standards. In the products of 11 brands, the amount of meat and fat in the jar also did not comply with GOST. In this case, all products were safe for health.
