ASF Vaccine Announced In US

US Department of Agriculture announced the invention of a vaccine against African swine fever, Kommersant writes.

The vaccine was developed by scientists from several US universities. The results of the study are published in the Journal of Virology, American Society of Microbiology. The vaccine was obtained through genetic modification of previous strains of the virus. Its effectiveness has been proven in 100% of cases.

The animals were vaccinated with both high and low doses of the vaccine, after 28 days the pigs showed resistance to the disease.

“This experimental ASF vaccine offers great promise and is able to provide complete protection against the current strain, which has caused the current outbreak in Eastern Europe and Asia,” said Douglas Gladue, US Department of Agriculture.

However, experts say the commercial vaccine will not be available on the market soon.
