Nutritional Value of U.S. Red Meat Promoted to Japanese Seniors

Promoting U.S. red meat as an important part of a diet for Japan’s aging population, USMEF launched a media campaign featuring Naoko Makino, a registered dietitian. In the campaign funded by the National Pork Board and the Beef Checkoff Program, Makino shared information about the nutritional value of U.S. pork and beef and introduced several simple recipes.

USMEF had originally planned the campaign for late April, but due to the COVID-19 outbreak moved the schedule up a month to make the effort more relevant.

The Japanese government has been emphasizing the importance of protein for healthy diets, with recommendations that senior citizens include protein in every meal,” said Takemichi Yamashoji, USMEF director in Japan. “It was a great opportunity to promote U.S. pork and beef and provide valuable information through a respected nutrition expert.”
