Europe intends to deliver pork on the new Asian markets

EU pork exports (including offal) in the first 7 months of 2021 were 10% higher year-on-year at 3.5 million tons, but they have clearly declined since then due to lower demand in the Chinese market.

Europe intends to deliver pork on the new Asian markets

In fact, July was the first month of decline from 2020, with fresh / frozen pork sales declining 17% from the previous year (259 thousand tons). The volume of shipments to China decreased by 43% and amounted to 105 thousand tons.

Shipments to other Far Eastern markets were higher than in July 2020, especially to Japan (+ 39%) and the Philippines (+ 103%). The EU has also been shipping several thousand tons of pork to Chile every month since December 2020, a market that previously was of little importance to European suppliers. However, according to official figures, these sales markets are not enough to compensate for the decline in volumes going to China.

Pork exports from the EU in July were also 11% lower than a year earlier and amounted to 103 thousand tons. There was an obvious decrease in supplies both to Hong Kong (-82% to 2.2 thousand tons) and to China (-9% to 60.2 thousand tons).
