Italy conducts trials of immunocontraceptive vaccine in wild boars

The Italian Ministry of Health has authorized field trials in wild boar of the immuno-contraceptive vaccine "GonaCon", developed by the Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

The zooprophylactic institutes of Lazio-Toscana and Mezzogiorno will carry out the tests. The experimentation consists of the oral use of the GonaCon product in wild boars, for a period not exceeding 24 months.

The immunocontraceptive has already been tested in the USA but in the European Union, Italy is the first to authorize field trials.
