The focus of the disease was in a small farm, where two pigs were kept. The owners, noticing that one of the animals was unhealthy, slaughtered him and then informed the vet who conducted the necessary research.

The National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute determined that it was an ASF virus. VMVT specialists took all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

The second pig from the same farm was killed, and their carcasses were destroyed. Started checking to determine how the virus got to the farm.

Earlier, the veterinary service warned Lithuanian pig producers about the high risk of ASF in the warm season. Owners of pigs are asked to be vigilant and create safe conditions for breeding animals, and if necessary, immediately call the VMVT staff.

Last year, 51 cases of ASF were recorded in Lithuania. The disease on the farm was first reported in 2014. During this time, more than 66 thousand pigs were killed.
