Sausage producers: raw materials are suspiciously expensive

Since the beginning of July 2020, large sausage producers have recorded a 26-32% increase in the cost of pork and poultry meat from the beginning of July 2020. Meat suppliers consider these claims far-fetched and explain the surge in prices by seasonal demand, Kommersant newspaper writes.

Meat suppliers increased prices for pork and poultry by 26-32%

According to the general director of the National Union of Pig Breeders, Yuri Kovalev, at the end of August the demand for pork will fall again, and along with it, the cost of meat will decrease.

Genrikh Arutyunov, COO of the Prodo group, admitted that pork consumption could have increased due to the holiday season, the resumption of the work of cafes and restaurants, but there is enough supply in this market, and the growth in demand does not justify a significant increase in prices.

The Dymov Group of Companies noted that in the meat raw materials market in the last year, the supply has only been growing, while the overall demand is static.

According to Kommersant, the producers of sausages are not planning to raise prices yet.
