Pork exports came in a bit above what I had penciled for the month, again with widespread growth, led by Mexico. Pork variety meats were on track, China held strong despite doomsday reports from the trade so that might yet show up in the data, but strong growth to Mexico, Philippines, Colombia certainly helped. Pork exports in 1H accounted for a record share of production and $/head were record-high.

June exports were larger than year-ago for: Mexico, China, Japan, Canada, Australia, Philippines, Guatemala, Taiwan, El Salvador, Chile, Nica, Costa Rica, NZ, Malaysia, Bahamas, T&T and Vietnam. Exports slowed for Korea, DR, Colombia, Honduras, HK and Panama.

June pork exports accounted for 26.7% of pork production and 31% when including variety meats, compared to 23.7% and 27% for June 2022. January – June 2023 pork exports accounted for 25.7% of production and 30% when including variety meats, compared to 23.5% and 26.6% for January – June 2022.
