Fifth Border Seminar of 2022 Held in Mexico

With millions of dollars of chilled U.S. red meat crossing the U.S.-Mexico border daily, USMEF carries out an ongoing training program with customs agents, brokers and staff of SENASICA, Mexico’s sanitary and phytosanitary regulatory agency, to facilitate the flow of U.S. product.

More than 1,700 attended five training seminars in 2022, with in-person sessions taking place in Nuevo Laredo, Mazatlan and Mexico City, while two were conducted virtually.

Funding support from USDA’s Market Access Program enables USMEF to review U.S. beef and pork production, cold chain infrastructure, food safety measures and FSIS plant inspection procedures during the seminars. With frequent turnover of border staff, the series also allows Alejandra Valdez, USMEF-Mexico’s senior director of technical services, to build relationships, address common issues that arise during the inspection process and establish USMEF as a knowledgeable resource for border officials.
