Pork prices in Russia may fall by 3-5% in 2020

Wholesale prices for pork in 2020 will continue to decline, to the average price level of this year, the decline may reach 3-5%, writes TASS with reference to the head of the National Meat Association of Russia Sergey Yushin.

According to him, if we take the median price, it is lower than even wholesale prices in 2014 or 2015, when the average price was about 160-170 rubles. At today's prices, a kilogram of half a carcass costs 135-142 rubles. This is 15-20% lower compared to that period of time. He also added that in 2020 prices may fall by another 3-5%.

At the same time, Sergey Yushin noted that with this price range, pork production remains profitable. It is expected that the consumption of this type of meat in the country will increase by 1.5-2% per year and will grow in 4 years to 300 thousand tons.

According to the results of the current year, the volume of pork production may reach 3.911 million tons.
