July pork muscle cut exports totaled 162,124 mt, down 6% or -10,200 mt from last year. Exports were higher to Mexico (+3,600 mt), Korea (+1,100 mt), Caribbean + DR (+800 mt), and South America (+330 mt), while exports were lower to China/HK (-4,400 mt), Canada (-3,700 mt), Japan (-3,200 mt), Central America (-2,200 mt), Aus/NZ (-1,200 mt), ASEAN (-840 mt), Taiwan (-480 mt), and EU27 + UK (-90 mt). Exports to Mexico (60,999 mt, +6%) remained on a record pace in July. Exports to Japan (27,682 mt, -10%) slowed to the lowest level since January, and exports to Korea (13,947 mt, +9%) were the lowest since March but were higher year-over-year. Exports to Canada (13,062 mt, -22%) were below year-ago levels for the seventh consecutive month. Combined exports to China/HK totaled 15,404 mt, down 22% from last year. Exports to China (14,623 mt, -23%) were lower, but exports to Hong Kong (781 mt, +5%) were the highest since February. Exports to Colombia (8,487 mt, +22%) remained strong in July, and exports to Chile (1,041 mt, -55%) were lower year-over-year but rebounded to the highest level since November. Exports were higher to Peru (162 mt, +65%). Exports to the Dominican Republic (4,659 mt, +11%) were higher year-over-year but slowed to the lowest level since last September. Exports were higher to the Bahamas (399 mt, +4%) and Trinidad and Tobago (314 mt, +17%). Exports to Australia (3,817 mt, -6%) were lower year-over-year and were down from 4,633 mt in May and 4,031 mt in June but were above the slow volumes from August 2021 – April 2022. Exports to New Zealand (233 mt, -80%) slowed to the lowest level since January. Exports to the Philippines (3,765 mt, -19%) continued to gain momentum and were the highest since last July. Exports were higher to Singapore (255 mt, +29%) and were steady year-over-year to Vietnam (97 mt), but exports to Vietnam were the lowest since February. Exports were higher than last year to Nicaragua (431 mt, +13%) but were lower to other destinations in Central America: Honduras (2,756 mt, -16%), Guatemala (1,696 mt, -24%), Panama (792 mt, -37%), El Salvador (703 mt, -24%), and Costa Rica (237 mt, -63%). Exports remained lower to Taiwan (272 mt, -64%).

July pork variety meat exports totaled 45,392 mt, -8% or -3,700 mt from last year but the highest since last August. Exports were higher to Japan (+570 mt), Central America (+370 mt), ASEAN (+330 mt), Mexico (+190 mt), and Caribbean + DR (+70 mt), while exports were lower to China/HK (-4,100 mt), South America (-650 mt), Canada (-100 mt), South Korea (-100 mt), and Taiwan (-70 mt). Exports to China (29,539 mt, -12%) were the highest since last July (when exports were 33,581 mt). No exports were reported to Hong Kong.

Exports were slightly higher to Mexico (9,246 mt, +2%). Exports were strong to the Philippines (1,497 mt, +34%), and exports to Japan (1,063 mt, +114%) were the highest since February. Exports were lower to Canada (1,394 mt, -7%) and Korea (715 mt, -12%). Exports to Colombia (591 mt, +52%) reached the second highest monthly volume, and exports to Guatemala (506 mt, +107%) were the third highest. Exports were also higher to Honduras (115 mt, +22%).

January – July pork muscle cut and variety meat exports totaled 1.492 million mt, down 17% or -302,000 mt from last year. Exports were higher to Mexico (+77,000 mt) and the Caribbean + DR (+16,000 mt), while exports were lower to China/HK (-257,000 mt), ASEAN (-43,000 mt), Australia/NZ (-27,000 mt), Japan (-21,000 mt), Canada (-20,000 mt), South America (-11,000 mt), Central America (-10,000 mt), Korea (-2,700 mt), Taiwan (-2,400 mt), and EU27 + UK (-430 mt).

July pork exports accounted for 24.7% of pork production and 29.3% when including variety meats, compared to 25.2% and 30.0% for July 2021. January – July pork exports accounted for 23.6% of production and 26.8% when including variety meats, compared to 27.1% and 30.7% for January – July 2021.

July 2022 pork export value per head averaged $67.10/head, down $0.04/head or -0.05% from $67.13/head in July 2021. January – July 2022 pork export value per head averaged $59.31/head, down $6.99/head or -10.5% from $66.30/head for January – July 2021.
