Restoration of pig farming has been in doubt

The total number of pigs in Ukraine in early November equaled last year figures. So, according to the State Statistics of Ukraine on November 1, the figure was 6.19 million head, which is 0.6% more than on the corresponding date of 2019. The stop of the descending movement of the pigs’ number in the country was commented on by Alexandra Bondarskaya, the head of the analytical department of the Association “Pig Farmers of Ukraine".

"Insignificant increase in the hog population in Ukraine was ensured by the corresponding dynamics in the industrial sector. So, an increase in the number of animals at agricultural enterprises by 7.5% or 254 thousand head, "blocked" the reverse shift of hog production in households. Even though the corresponding dynamics in industrial pig farming are observed over three consecutive calendar months, it is too early to draw conclusions about the confident restoration of the industry. Although statistics record positive dynamics in the third quarter, market circumstances make it doubtful whether these positive fluctuations will turn into a trend. There is an increase in pessimism among individual industry operators, which entails a more active exit from the market and the suspension of plans for the further development of those operators who remain, "- commented in ASU.
