Russia doubles pork exports to the world market

The production of this type of meat in our country increased by 8.9% in 2020. Pork imports to Russia fell to their lowest levels in the last 30 years, while exports increased significantly. This was told by the head of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center of Agroanalytics" Dmitry Aveltsov.

— At the end of last year, our country doubled the supply of pork to the world market. It is important to note that 2-3 years ago in the export structure the largest share (about two-thirds) belonged to by-products, and according to the results of 2020, the share of meat will be about 68%. This has sharply increased the value of exports and provided a relief to the domestic market. The main buyers of Russian pork are Vietnam, Hong Kong, Ukraine – 77% of the total volume of this product is supplied to these countries, – said the head of the Agroanalytics Center.

According to him, in general, in 2020, meat production in Russia increased by 3.4% compared to 2019. The total volume of meat production at the end of last year in carcass weight amounted to 11.2 million tons, of which poultry meat accounts for 5 million tons (45%), pork – 4.3 million tons (38%), cattle meat – 1.6 million tons (15%).

As specified by Aveltsov, almost all of the increase was due to pork, the volume of production of which increased by 8.9% over the year. Over the past five years, the production of pigs for slaughter in live weight has increased by 39%. The main growth was achieved due to the industrial sector, whose share in 2020 was 89%.
